Hello! I’m Ginny Harrison
Certified Swim Instructor & Trainer
The Harrisons are the owners of Harrison Swim School. The year 2020 marks Ginny’s 50th year as a swimming instructor. That’s an estimated 10,000 kids and adults that she has taught to swim in a decade! Jim Harrison handles all the behind the scenes work and loves to encourage the kids in their swimming.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Ginny has taught in the Central Florida area for over 30 years. She is a certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor qualified to teach babies as young as 6 months and all ages including senior adults. Ginny is also a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer and has certified more than 50 individuals to teach swimming.
One of her passions is working with swimmers with special needs. She is a certified Adaptive Aquatic instructor through Swim Angelfish (www.SwimAngelfish.com) and is currently working with the Central Florida Dreamplex as the Director of Adaptive Aquatics.
Ginny is a certified Montessori teacher (AMI) and brings her 10 years of Montessori experience to the water classroom. Ensuring that children have the skills they need to succeed in the digital age is one of the most important issues for 21st century education. Incorporating the Montessori method and the Four C’s of success (Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Creativity and Communication) helps to foster “self-disciple”, responsibility, creativity and individuality through freedom of choice and a focus on independence. These are strong foundations for teaching any child.
Ginny serves as a member of the Water Safety Advisory Committee, created by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners. The committee advises the Board of Commissioners on the issues related to water safety and drowning prevention.
Parent participation is encouraged in every lesson as together the instructor and parent will work as a team to help instill self-confidence in every swimmer. Adults learning to swim have great success with Ginny’s program as they are encouraged to practice under proper supervision and perfect the skills in their own time. The goal is to see every student become comfortable, confident and competent in deep water.
